Informational Meetings

Many of the colleges and majors offer informational meetings so you can learn more about the academic program and the ICT or application process. Certain majors actually prefer that you attend an informational meeting before attempting to meet with an advisor one-on-one.  The follow colleges/departments offer informational meetings:

  • Agricultural and Consumer Economics (ACE)
  • College of Applied Health Sciences
  • Architecture Major
  • College of Business
  • College of Education
  • Global Studies

Agricultural and Consumer Economics (ACE)

The next opportunity to transfer will be in March 2013. Applications are due by 12:00 pm, March 11, 2013 in 304 Mumford Hall. Transfer decisions will be communicated via e-mail no later than 5:00 pm, Friday, March 15, 2013.

ICT Info Sessions: Two informational sessions will be held prior to the deadline to apply to transfer:
  • Tuesday, March 5 from 4-5 p.m. in 305 Mumford Hall.
  • Wednesday, March 6 from noon - 1 p.m. in 305 Mumford Hall.
Note that attendance at these meetings is NOT required for transfer into ACE.

College of Education:


The College of Education will be holding Informational Sessions for students that wish to transfer into the College of Education for the Fall 2012 term. Please encourage your students to attend one of our informational sessions if they have questions about the application process to the majors of Elementary Education, Early Childhood or Special Education. Attending a session is the BEST way for students to get all their questions answered by an academic advisor. 


The informational sessions are Tuesdays at 4pm-5pm in 210A Education Building

Meetings are held in the Global Studies Conference Room (703 S. Wright Street, 3rd Floor) and last about an hour. 

In these sessions, advisors will guide students through the requirements of the major and minor and help students with necessary forms for declaring the major or minor.

College of Media


The College of Media will be holding three Informational Sessions for students that wish to transfer into the College of Media for the Fall 2013 term. Please plan to attend one of these sessions if you have questions about the application process or the majors of Advertising, Agricultural Communication, Broadcast Journalism, Media and Cinema Studies or News Editorial Journalism. Attending a session is the BEST way for the students to get all their questions answered by representatives from each department as well as by academic advisors. (The same information will be covered at each session, students would only need to attend one.)

Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB)

An academic advisor will provide an overview of the MCB program, requirements, career opportunities and the criteria for declaring MCB. 

Interested students should attend only one session.  All sessions are identical and typically last 1 – 1.5 hours.

Psychology


Students are invited to attend a Prospective Student Meeting in order to learn whether the major is a good fit. These group meetings are conducted by an academic advisor who will provide information about the program/opportunities in Psychology. All questions will be answered at this meeting. Please stop by the Psychology Advising Office, Room 10 Psychology Building, to sign up for a meeting and to pick up an informational packet.

Students must earn credit for an introductory psychology course (PSYC 100 or equivalent), a statistics course (PSYC 235 or equivalent), and a U of I at Urbana-Champaign biological/cognitive psychology course (PSYC 204, 210, 220, 224, 230, 248, or 358). A minimum 2.75 GPA is required for all psychology and statistics courses taken at U of I at Urbana-Champaign.

Spanish


If you have been considering a major or minor in Spanish and you would like more information about how and when to declare, the requirements, and how study abroad can be incorporated, you are invited to attend one of these information meetings.
Come meet the undergraduate Spanish advisor, Beth Chasco, as she explains the curriculum and answers student questions. In this way you can avoid the long lines at the advising office during peak periods.

*Bring the Intent to Declare a Campus Minor form and a print out of your academic history if you believe you will want to declare a minor at the end of the meeting.
