Pre-Law Events


Pre-law's fall events have been posted to their online event calendar at http://illinois.edu/calendar/list/2508  They will once again be hosting Pre-Law Orientation sessions for freshmen (or students who are new to pre-law) and freshmen should attend an orientation prior to setting up an appointment with a pre-law advisor
 
Pre-Law Orientation Workshop
Sept. 20 from 4-5 pm, Oct. 8 from 4-5 pm, Nov. 5 from 3-4 pm

This pre-law orientation is designed for incoming freshmen or continuing students who are new to pre-law. We will cover: the profile of a successful law school candidate; selecting a major to prepare for law school; extracurriculars and what a law school resume should look like; and short and long term goals. We will also have time to answer any of your questions. Freshmen should attend an orientation prior to setting up an individual pre-law advising appointment. Perfecting Your Personal Statement and Resume for Law School

This workshop is designed for students who will be applying to law school this fall. Are you stuck? Don't know what to write on your personal statement? We will give an overview of the personal statement and resume, including: what law schools are looking for, how to make the two documents strengthen each other, how to get started, and how to avoid pitfalls. Mythbusters: Law School Edition
Sept. 19 at 5:30 pm in Room A of the Law Building
Myths about law school abound. How difficult is the workload? Do law students ever sleep? What is it really like to be a law student? This workshop, co-hosted by the College of Law, is a fun and interactive way to learn the truth about the law school experience. We will use I-clickers to poll the audience, then hear the inside scoop from current law students. No registration necessary.

Applying to Law School Workshop: Creating an Application Strategy and Using the LSAC

Smart applicants set themselves up for success by applying to the right law schools at the right time. This workshop, designed for students who will be applying to law school this fall, covers many of the details of the application process. First, we will discuss how to develop an application strategy. With over 200 law schools to choose from, how can students make an intelligent choice of 6-10 schools to which to apply? We'll demonstrate how to develop a smart strategy. Next, we will be discussing the Law School Admission Council's Credential Assembly Service and we'll demonstrate step by step the process of collecting recommendations, submitting transcripts, and applying through their online service. Bring your questions about the application process. No registration necessary.

SAVE THE DATE: Law School Fair

Join us as over 110 law schools come to campus to meet with prospective students. Speak with representatives of schools that interest you, and learn about schools that might be a good fit. Ask questions, gather brochures and fee waivers, and introduce yourself to the admissions professionals who will be reading your applications! This event is FREE and open to the public.
